Papillon tells the true story of Henri Charièrre, called 'Papillon' (butterfly) who was condemned in 1931, to lifelong convict labor because of a murder that he didn’t committed. He thereupon is transported to the French colony Guyana in South-America. Papillon is determined to escape, but after his first attempt he ends up on the gruesome Devil's Island, a relentless French-Guyana prison, from which nobody ever escaped.
