The most important thing in shares buyer Lawrence Garfield (Danny DeVito) is money and the most of all, other people's money. When he makes an attempt to get the the company New England Wire & Cable in his possession, he must engage into combat with the director of the venture, Andrew Jorgenson (Gregory Peck), Jorgenson's assistant, Bea Sullivan (Piper Laurie) and a lawyer from New York, Kate Sullivan (Penelope Ann Miller). Andrew however, is not intended to sell his company and eventually the bitter fight turns out in a lawsuit.
