Father McEnroe is the head of an elite school in Santiago the Chili. Because he believes in a democratic and classless society also some children from the slums are allowed in the classroom. Thus Gonzalo Infante and Pedro Machuca meet each other. In spite of their respectively rich and poor background them friends become. Their life story takes place against the background of the government Allende and the following coup of the military. Especially that last one has a serious influence on the lives of the two early teenagers.
