The small-time thief Michel (Jean-Paul Belmondo) tries to look like Humphrey Bogart. On the road to Paris he steals a car and kills a policeman. Once fled to the city of light, he gets a relation with the American Patricia (Jean Seberg). She turned out to be a femme fatal. Between the two an amorous relation arises. In the meantime the police force is on Michel’s heels. He knows he cannot keep going on like this and starts taking more risks …
