Movie Plot : In November 1984, the law-abiding Stasi-agent Wiesler (Ulrich Mühe) gets the assignment to shadow the successful playwright Georg Dreyman (Sebastian Koch) and his life partner Christa-Maria Sieland (Martina Gedeck). Wiesler faces the world of love, literature and free thinking, which is new to him, as a result of which he realises the uselessness of his existence. The more he gets in contact with this new world, the more the notion grows that the Stasi also has limited his own life seriously.
